IMG_2855SiTE:LAB will be participating in the 2nd edition of the UNTITLED art fair in Miami from December 2 – 8, 2013, featuring a site-specific installation by Brooklyn-based artist Alois Kronschlaeger.

Alois Kronschlaeger’s work exists at the intersection of art, architecture, fashion and design. Kronschlaeger is best known for his site-specific installations and sculptures, which demonstrate a preoccupation with environment and light, as well as an interest in exploring time and space via geometry. Over the past several years, Kronschlaeger’s work has grown in scale, from encompassing the entire horizontal plane of the Tierney Gardarin Gallery in New York to a 72 foot tall installation in the abandoned elevator shaft of a vacant commercial building in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  His 2012 piece Habitat, a 27-part architectural intervention in the mammal dioramas of the former Grand Rapids Public Museum, was given the ArtPrize 2-D juried award by juror Tyler Green. In 2013, Kronschlaeger exhibited in Mexico City, Mexico and Beijing, China, and mounted his first major solo museum exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tucson, Arizona. Kronschlaeger is represented by Tierney Gardarin in New York.

SiTE:LAB is a Grand Rapids-based non-profit that organizes art exhibits in temporary locations.  Over the past three years, SiTE:LAB has staged over a dozen site-specific projects in locations ranging from vacant commercial buildings to a nature center and an abandoned natural history museum.  SiTE:LAB was the recipient of the ArtPrize juried award for best venue in 2011 and 2012, and exhibited the winner of the ArtPrize grand prize juried award in both 2012 and 2013.  Jerry Saltz, senior art critic for New York magazine, weighed in that SiTE:LAB’s 2012 ArtPrize exhibition was “the BEST SPACE for artist-curated exhibitions I have seen in the United States for some time.”

SiTE:LAB curator Paul Amenta expressed his excitement at being accepted to UNTITLED.  “This is SiTE:LAB’s first project outside of Grand Rapids, and we could not be happier that it will feature Alois.  We have worked with him on two prior projects and know from those experiences that he will create something truly unique in Miami.”

SiTE:LAB’s participation in UNTITLED is supported by Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University.
