“Art Prize is Grand Rapids’ largest and most visible event of the year. In six years, Art Prize has hosted 10,688 artists’ entries and had 1.9 million visitors. This year, Habitat Kent decided to join the Art Prize fever by partnering with SiTE:LAB, a nomadic all-volunteer arts organization.
The above video explains the relationship between Habitat Kent and SiTE:LAB working towards Plaza Roosevelt in 2017.
The Rumsey St. Project is focused on large-scale site-specific work done by both local and international artists responding to the vacant land and structures. This includes physical creations with the materials left behind in the buildings as well as live performance based installations.*
By partnering with the community and Habitat Kent, SiTE:Lab will be able to expose thousands of newcomers to the Roosevelt Park Neighborhood. SiTE:LAB will remain in Roosevelt Park through Art Prize 2016. They plan to continue to use the spaces to engage with the local residents through art programs and events.”
