Friday & Saturday 12:00PM – 10:00PM
Sunday 12:00PM – 6:00PM

54 Jefferson, home to the Grand Rapids Public Museum from 1940 to 1994, is being repurposed as an ArtPrize venue by SiTE:LAB, winner of the juried award for outstanding venue the last two years. Vacant since the museum moved to the Van Andel Museum Center, 54 Jefferson was left largely intact. Extant dioramas, showcases and exhibits will provide a unique environment for an exhibition of site-specific work selected by SiTE:LAB curator Paul Amenta. SiTE:LAB is a Grand Rapids-based non-profit that organizes art exhibits in temporary locations. 54 Jefferson is being made available to SiTE:LAB through the generosity of the Grand Rapids Public Museum and the City of Grand Rapids.

SiTE:LAB @ ArtPrize 2012

” SiTE:LAB in that old museum thing, that’s as good as Munster, or Documenta, or any place in America. If those guys could keep this place open twice a year it would be one of the great spots.”
— Jerry Saltz, Senior Art Critic, New York Magazine

“Derelict & shuttered 1938 natural history museum in Grand Rapids. Best location for an art show that I have
E V E R seen in this country. More to follow soon …”
— Jerry Saltz

“If I were a person with money, or a city with funds, or an Arts Agency I would do anything I could to make sure that a way could be found for SiTElab to stay open IN THIS SPACE; and to begin mounting two or three shows a year there. It is the BEST SPACE for artist-curated exhibitions I have seen in the United States for some time.”
— Jerry Saltz

“In short, @SiTE_LAB was the big ArtPrize winner of the night. Follow @paulamenta. Whatever he does next merits our attention.”
— Tyler Green
