The first outdoor SiTE:LAB event was held at Blandford Natx`ure Center, a 143 acre preserve located on Grand Rapids’ northwest side. Featuring 30 site-specific installations in Blandford’s varied landscape, the exhibition offered artists the opportunity to incorporate harvested materials. The 2-day event drew an estimated 2,000 visitors to the preserve, and included live music and food and beverage sales benefitting Kid’s Food Basket of Grand Rapids and Neighborhood Ventures. Interactive projects conducted by art education students allowed kids to collaborate with artists, and students from WMCAT worked on two installations created for the event. The unique partnership with Blandford exposed each organization to a broader demographic.
